Discussion boards can be an effective means of facilitating student participation and peer-to-peer interaction in both online and traditional classrooms. This session will review different types of discussion boards and how discussion boards can fit into the larger course structure. Examples of prompts, instructions, and rubrics will be provided. We will walk through the process of creating a discussion board and managing a discussion in the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).

A free version of the Canvas LMS, including the discussion board feature, is available for educators. Participants can sign up here if they want to follow along with the demonstration or develop their own practice discussion boards.
